My Action Research Plan


Action Planning Template
Goal:  To find out if playing music in the background while students are testing has a positive effect on their test scores.

1.  Dividing groups into 4 groups, Group 1 will listen to music every day during math work time and during weekly math tests.
Myself and Ceclia Floreke, 2nd grade teacher
Beginning 1st day of school  2013 and lasting until the last test of the school year 2014.
List of students, list of student to teacher ratio, cd with various composers, cd player, list of weekly objectives, weekly math grades, testing materials for math.
Compare results from beginning of the year to the end of the year.  Also compare results between all the groups to see which has the better scores.
2.  Group 2 will listen to music during math work time every other week and on every weekly math test.

  1. I love music in the background and play it as often as possible. We recently had pandora and youtube blocked because of bandwidth problems and inappropriate use. I wish we could just educate kids and train them to do the right thing. You have set up some unique control groups. It will be interesting to see the results with younger kids. I'll be checking back to see your what you find out.

  2. Here are some things you may want to consider adding
    Include a survey of the students to get their feeling about listening to the music
    Add a section to your timeline about presenting your results
    Maybe collect student work from those who get to listen to music and those who do not.

  3. Very interesting. Will you survey the parents to find out which kids like to listen to music in the background verse those that like it quiet. Especially since some kids are very sensitive to sounds and might be very easily distracted. I noticed there was not reflective journal, and you did not add how you will share your information. Just suggestions.
